Eriskay Ponies.....

As well as our horses we have small number of Eriskay ponies.  All of our ponies are vaccinated and have their feet trimmed regularly and receive the same attention and care in breeding as our sports horses.

Eriskays are a very rare breed and are on the RBST critical list.  There are usually less than 20 born each year.  Sturdy animals standing 12-13.5 hands they make excellent children’s ponies as they are very people friendly. They are almost always grey and being very strong they are also ridden by small adults.

Oddsfarm Fiona - Eriskay Pony Mare

We bought Oddsfarm Fiona (Friday) when she was one day old.  A shivering black bundle she was born in the middle of a storm on Good Friday so what else could she be called.  She is the daughter of the first foal of our original pony Hollenden Isla. She is a fine example of an Eriskay - tough and hardy but very people friendly.

Skeyria Pip - Eriskay Pony Stallion

We have bred an Eriskay colt that is rising three and is a very fine fellow.  He is still very dark but will eventually turn grey like the others.  He was recently inspected by the Eriskay Pony Studbook inspectors and is now a licensed stallion.  We are very proud of him as he is the great grandson of our original Eriskay mare Isla. A true Eriskay he has the wonderful friendly temperament that characterizes the Eriskay Pony.

Our Eriskay part bred

A few years ago we experimented by crossing our Eriskay mare Isla with a thoroughbred stallion.  Our idea was to try to introduce the very calm temperament of the Eriskay into a sports pony.  The result was Skeyria Davy, sired by the SHBGB graded stallion Miners Lamp, he is a very fine show jumping pony having qualified twice for the Trailblazers Final and taking second place in the Blue Chip Coral last year.  So far this year he has again qualified for the Coral, the Sparkle and won a Scope qualifier Adventurer.  He also won a Scope Members Cup. A very laid back chap, we are told he goes to sleep between rounds!

Unfortunately we no longer own him but we regularly hear of his exploits
